Inspired by Dagestani wrestlers who are known to wrestle actual bears from time to time. Bears are also considered sacred animals in many cultures; revered for their fierce power, protective nature, and seasonal rebirth after hibernation. For grapplers, we think the bear is a fitting Talisman of the balance between "wild" and "civil" that we all play with in practise.

Original Animals is the brainchild of Becky Lane; a long-time designer, grappling addict, and big fan of making beautiful things by hand.

At its heart, Original Animals is an evolving project that pays homage to the sport we love through the creative practise of one designer. It’s small, slightly chaotic, and a work in progress. A bit like the Martial Way.
